About the Instructor
Captain Therese, born and raised in East Boston, Massachusetts, brings a wealth of sailing experience and a genuine passion for the sea to First Reef. Her journey as a sailor began in Boston Harbor, where she started as a student at Piers Park Sailing Center (PPSC). She later became an instructor for PPSC's US Sailing Basic Keelboat program, teaching sailing fundamentals, safety, navigation, and keelboat handling with dedication and patience.

Therese's role at PPSC allowed her to mentor aspiring sailors, leaving a lasting impact on the community. In 2018, she sailed with the Sea Education Association from American Samoa to New Zealand, gaining insights into sustainability practices aboard ships and fostering her commitment to sustainability within the sailing community.

Her love for the tall-ship community grew while working as a mate on the Schooner Adirondack III in Boston Harbor. In 2021, she earned her United States Coast Guard 100 Ton Master's license and has since served as the senior captain aboard Adirondack, managing all aspects of the vessel and its crew. During the winter months, she sailed Hawaiian waters, expanding her knowledge of marine life and sharing it with travelers.

Captain Therese joins First Reef as an ASA 101/103/104/114 Instructor, ready to inspire and educate the next generation of sailors with her extensive experience, commitment to sustainability, and love for sailing.
