About the Instructor
Tom West brings over forty years of sailing experience, encompassing both cruising and racing, to his role as a sailing instructor. His professional background as a services management executive honed his communication skills, which he effectively uses to teach and inspire his students.
Tom discovered his love for sailing after college and vividly remembers the excitement and challenge of learning the ropes. He has owned various cruising and racing sailboats and has competed in PHRF and one-design racing in the Boston Harbor and Marblehead fleets. As his family grew, his focus shifted to coastal cruising, exploring the waters from Maine to Rhode Island.
Known for his relaxed and unflappable demeanor, Tom excels at teaching beginners who may feel intimidated by the prospect of learning to sail. His patience and clear communication help his students thrive and gain confidence on the water.
Tom holds ASA certifications for courses 201, 203, 204, and 205, and possesses a USCG 50GT Near Coastal Masters license. With fifteen years of experience teaching ASA classes, Tom is dedicated to sharing his passion for sailing with students of all levels.
